Battle of the Drink Crystals - Kool-Aid, Nestea and Crystal Light

By Jeanne Dupuis

With so many people turning away from soda but not always wanting to just drink water all the time, companies have come up with ways to make it convenient to "flavor" our water. Kool-Aid, Crystal Light and Nestea are just three brands who have entered this race by offering customers individual packets that can be added to a simple glass of water or a water bottle. It's practical because if you are on the run, like many of us are, it's quick and easy to just grab a bottle of water, pour the packet in, shake and enjoy. It's great for single people too who may not want to make a full pitcher of the drink.

But do they taste good?

Comparing Kool-Aid, Crystal Light and Nestea

Here's the truth - when I make Kool-Aid or iced tea, I probably add wayyyy too much sugar so it's not always easy to please someone like me.

With that in mind, I've got to say that not all flavors of Kool-Aid Singles are created equal. The cherry flavor is the best one to me in terms of quality and sweetness. The grape is the worst and the others fall someone in between.

The Nestea packets are actually pretty gross to me. I know there are people who must like them because they continue to exist but I don't find they stay true to the original flavor. Maybe it's because I am comparing the canned version to the powder.

Crystal Light packets are decent. With the fewest calories and good flavor, it is hard to beat these. My personal favorite is the Raspberry Ice. I'm not a fan, usually, of raspberry flavored things but I like these a lot!

Bottom line: try them all. I think that this is one of those things that really depends on the taste of the individual.

I love the singles because they're easy to make. It's amazing to that they can have the same taste without the added sugar.

Crystal Light - Peach Iced Tea. Fantastic stuff. It makes water so easy to drink.

Hey Ladies, one thing I recently learned from a health scare (which I completely turned around with diet) is to stay as far as you can from a few things, mainly white sugar (fructose, glucose, etc) and artificial sweeteners!

Sugar - referred to as 'white death', it sends your body into shock with sugar spikes and over time will effect your heath.

Artificial sweeteners are chemicals that your body does not know what to do with, they build up as toxins, they WILL slow you down, effect brain, cognitive health, etc over time.

Honestly, ANY ingredient that you want to consume (that is obviously not a whole food), you should do a google search on it to find out what it is, what it does to your body, etc.

Note: for tasty water (I HATE plain water), I brew specialty teas strong and cool them off, then have them over ice.

To make them sweet I use Stevia, it is, as far as I've been told, the only safe way to sweeten your food without damaging your body and effecting your heath.

I also get single serve packets from a company called 'healthy to go' and they taste great, they say it counts as a serving of fruit, so it actually does your body good!!!

I have turned my life around, my family is calmer, my daughter's asthma is cured (no more puffer) and my skin is clear for the 1st time in 20 years!

So don't put things in your body before you search the ingredients!

All we do is stay as close to natural and whole as possible, no processed, pre-packaged, etc and it has made a HUGE difference!!!

Cheers, Di

I'm a child of the 70's when 1 entire cup of sugar went into making a pack of Koolaid and full sugar soda and we all made it through pretty much unscathed...now you should be scared to put anything in your mouth and disease is waiting around every ingredient. Since we have become so cautious we have never been fatter and sicker....I refuse to listen to the fear mongers.
